Struggles of Writing

I think all we writers can agree that writing comes with it’s own problems and struggles you have to get through if you are going to finish that book you started. Now some writers are lucky, and they can write a first draft without struggles and with ease. Unfortunately, however, I am not one of those writers.

I think all we writers can agree that writing comes with it’s own problems and struggles you have to get through if you are going to finish that book you started. Now some writers are lucky, and they can write a first draft without struggles and with ease. Unfortunately, however, I am not one of those writers.

Though I am enjoying it, I still find it hard to concentrate while writing. Writing is a truly fun and amazing experience. I’ve learnt so much in the past few days. You have no idea how many times I’ve opened up a dictionary or thesaurus to check spellings and enhance my vocabulary, and all those things are getting drilled into my brain, whether I notice it or not. I also feel like with every chapter I write, my words and my language gets better and better – it’s as if every chapter is a stepping stone towards another better chapter. I know it sounds all very sentimental, but trust me, it is true.

I am currently sitting at 4,000 words in two days, which is good because it means I am meeting my goal of 2,000 words per day. However, those two thousand words come with many struggles, some of which – I repeat – some of which are listed below:

Netflix

Netflix is a constant source of distraction for me. Last night I woke up and marathoned one  entire season of Stranger Things, even though I had not written my words (I stayed up later and completed them). It’s so hard to not get obsessed with tv shows and watch Netflix all day. I have not yet found a solution to this problem. If you have, let me know in the comments.

Reading

Reading effects my writing in many ways. First, it distracts me, obviously, which is most of the problems I face. Second, it gives me ideas and makes me want to change things, which will delay everything further.  And third, it makes me think in the long term way, like, should I have a cover like Throne of Glass or Six of Crows? Where should I get it published?

Sleeping

So considering I manage to not write something during the day, I will try – I repeat – try to wake up and do my words and I’m sleepy, and my stomach is full (see the next one) so I can’t drink coffee either and life is a mess and everything is hard.

Eating

My number one excuse for not writing is eating. I don’t care if my stomach is full – I will eat. And I can’t type or write while eating. And the worst part is that I know inside that I’m just using this as an excuse, and I will still do it. I will simply refuse to write.

So that’s it for this blog post! If you’ve made it this far, congrats! If you have any suggestions for writing or my blog or anything, leave them down below. I’d love to your stories and opinions. And with that, I’ll say goodbye. Goodbye!
