All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Hi guys! So today I’m going to be doing a review on All the Bright Places  by Jennifer Niven.

GENERAL THOUGHTS

For a few overall thoughts, this novel has changed me. It opened my eyes to the world around me. The farther I got into the book, the more I started realising my own flaws; how negative I was. I honestly don’t know what it is about this book, but it moved me. It moved me in a way no other book has ever done. Sure, Harry Potter changed my reading tastes, and The Hunger Games changed my opinions about dystopian, but no book has ever really been able to do what All the Bright Places has done. It has changed my views about everything. I feel like I’m more positive, and more clean, and just…I have really no words to describe it. I feel like this is the only book in years that could come up to the level of Harry Potter.

PLOTLINE

It is about a girl called Violet who falls in love with a boy called Finch. Finch is known around school as a freak. He is on probation for being naughty the previous school year. Finch wants to die. His mom and dad are divorced, he himself is harassed at school verbally, even though he doesn’t take it to the heart. Violet, on the other hand, used to be a merry girl, drinking and partying with friends, a really nice boyfriend, etc. But ever since the death of her sister Eleanor, she had been quiet and sad and has lost all happiness. The two meet on the school bell tower one day, and that is where their story goes ahead.

CHARACTERS

I think the characters are brilliantly plotted and created and brought to life. They work super well with Jennifer Niven’s amazing writing style. The descriptions of feelings, I think, are the best part. The way she is able to distinct Violet and Finch’s feelings and voices is amazing. Both the leads really grab your heart. My favourite one is Finch, since I can easily relate to him because I too, have been bullied at school a lot.

WRITING STYLE

I have no words for Jennifer Niven’s writing style. I makes you feel happy and sad at the same time. It’s simply brilliant. Heart-wrenching. Her ability to describe feeling is what I like most about the writing style. They’re accurate and to the point. I’ve never been to touched by a book. Never.

RECOMMENDATION

If you’re looking for a good contemporary book, I would highly recommend All The Bright Places. It is also a very cozy book. This is definitely perfect if you are a The Fault in Our Stars fan. It gives you all the emotions. And the thing that I love about it is that not only is it a romance novel, it also has a finding yourself and coming of age kind of theme, which is what really moves you.  So, I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Thanks! I don’t get any spam. I use a self-hosted WordPress Blog, so I use the Askimet Plugin to block out spam. It works really well and I haven’t gotten any spam.
